Here Are Recipes for Every Way to Prepare Shrimp, According to Bubba in Forrest Gump (2024)

In one of the most memorable scenes in Forrest Gump, a movie filled with memorable scenes, Benjamin Buford Blue—better known as Bubba—lists for his Army buddy Forrest twenty-one ways to prepare shrimp. Bubba knows shrimp: He’s worked on shrimp boats around his Gulf Coast hometown of Bayou La Batre, Alabama,since he was nine.

“Shrimp is the fruit of the sea,” Bubba begins. “You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sauté it. There’s, uh, shrimp kebabs, shrimp Creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That—that’s about it.”
