Grab Your Presidents’ Day Activities

The school year is under way, so let’s get you prepped for all those upcoming holidays in your Social Studies curriculum! We have created a fun and engaging Presidents’ Day reader for first-grade and kindergarten students. Use this mini-book for an interactive read-aloud in the weeks surrounding the Presidents’ Day holiday.

Students will identify high-frequency sight words through this group reading activity and use context clues and images to determine unknown words or phrases. They will discover when Presidents’ Day is celebrated, why we celebrate it, and who we celebrate on the holiday.

Pair this reader with one of our many Presidents’ Day crafts — like this Funky Uncle Sam craftivity — and make a fantastic Presidents’ Day bulletin board display in your classroom!

Alternative Uses For a Presidents’ Day Book

We created this resource for circle time and reading lessons. In addition, we suggest these alternative uses to reinforce reading skills and new vocabulary words with your small group and full-class lessons:

  • Print on cardstock and assemble a small set of books for a reading center activity where students read the books to each other as partners.
  • Complete a booklet, print a copy for each student, and send them home as mini-readers to share with their family.
