How To Make Our Red Velvet Bundt Cake Recipe:

Red Velvet Bundt Cake Recipe (4)

Start making the cake by preheating the oven to 350 degrees.

Then in a large mixing bowl, combine the dry cake mix, instant pudding mix, sour cream, beaten eggs, and water all together until it is nice and smooth.

Once the cake batter has been made, pour in the white chocolate chips and fold them into the cake batter.

Now, spray a bundt pan with nonstick cooking spray and pour the cake batter into the bundt pan, lightly tapping it on the counter and even out the cake batter as much as possible.

After the oven is preheated, place the bundt pan in the oven for 45-50 minutes or until you can insert a toothpick and have it come out clean.

Red Velvet Bundt Cake Recipe (5)

When the cake is cooked all the way through, pull it out of the oven and let the cake cool down completely for about 90 minutes before trying to flip the cake out onto a serving plate.

While the cake is baking, mix up the frosting by combining the cream cheese, butter, and vanilla extract until it is nice and creamy.

Then, begin adding the powdered sugar and mix it all together. Continue adding in more powdered sugar until you ready your desired consistency.

After the cake has cooled down completely, either place the frosting in a piping bag with a large hole and create a drizzle effect over top of the bundt cake. Or you can use a spatula and spread it on top of the cake.

To Make Our Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting You Will Need:

  1. Large mixing bowl (2) – THESE work great!
  2. Bundt Cake
  3. Spatula (2)
  4. Hand or stand mixer

How to Get the Cake Out of the Bundt Pan?

It comes down to using a good non-stick pan and then I love using Baker’s Joy – it’s a non-stick cooking spray that has flour in it! I have always had success getting my cakes out when I use it.

You can also make up a cake goop recipe. Yes, I know that doesn’t sound appealing, but you can make it with just a few ingredients and store it in an air-tight container and use it to grease your pans before baking a cake.

Sugar Geek Show has a great cake goop recipe also known as a homemade pan release recipe that you will love and make baking a cake just that much easier.

Secret Ingredient to Our Red Velvet Bundt Cake

The secret ingredient is a pudding mix! Just the mix itself, don’t prepare the pudding as directed but use the dry powder. It makes the cake so soft every time!

What is Red Velvet Made Of?

While many might think that red velvet cake is pretty much just vanilla cake with a couple of drops of red food coloring, there is a little bit more to it.

Red velvet cake also needs a little bit of cocoa powder, along with the buttermilk and vinegar flavors to make that exquisite red velvet flavor and texture in addition to the red food coloring.

  1. Emily says:

every time I make a bundt cake I have a hard time getting it to come out nice. Part of it always sticks to the pan, any advise?? Thanks!-Emily

  2. Cyd says:

Just be sure to use a non stick spray. Pam came out with a new non stick spray that is for baking and has flour in it. It's amazing!

  3. Jennifer L. says:

I recently made this recipe, but did so as cupcakes, rather than a bundt cake. I ended up with 19 cupcakes and just enough frosting for all 19. I do not recall the baking time, I just "eyeballed" it (sorry I didn't monitor that better for commenting). This recipe is delicious! The cream cheese frosting is spot-on and the cake is moist and tasty.

  4. Liz says:

I am always looking for yummy recipes, but easy ones....cupcakes just take too long. I have become a lover of any kind of bundt cake. This is a keeper. Took to work yesterday and every single piece of this cake was eaten up! Thank you - great recipe!

  5. joannie says:

Hi, i can replace sour cream with greek yoghurt?

  6. Cyd says:

We have replaced sour cream with Greek Yogurt in other cakes and it has worked fine.

  7. Courtney says:

Could you pour this cake into two regular cake pans instead of a bundt pan?

  8. Cyd says:

It should work fine, just watch closely because that could alter the cooking time.

  9. Kim says:

If I wanted to do this with a mini bundt pan, how long would I bake it?

  10. Kate Melo says:

I made this for a potluck once and it was absolutely delicious!! The problem is, my daughter is terribly allergic to the red dye (she throws up uncontrollably). Would it turn out the same with a devil's food cake, or a regular chocolate cake mix? Thanks!

  11. Cyd says:

Hi Kate, you can totally swap out the red velvet cake mix for another 15.25 ounce cake mix flavor.

  12. Helena says:

Can you use red velvet cake mix with instant pudding already in it

  13. Cyd says:

A red Velvet Cake mix with pudding in the mix will work with this recipe too. You will still want to add the instant pudding mix as listed in the recipe.

  14. Helena says:

Thank you so very much for clarifying my question. I can't wait to make this cake it looks very yummy Helena

  15. Eric says:

The recipe doesn't call for any oil? So do we use it or not?

  16. Jen says:

I was confused by the oil comments too. We just made it according to the directions above (no oil- just the mix, sour cream, eggs and water) and it's delicious. I'll be making another one this week to take to a holiday party and have a feeling this one will be gone by ten tomorrow at my office.

  17. Jen says:

*and the pudding mix* left that off my original post.

  18. Cyd says:

That is right. There is no vegetable oil in this recipe.

  19. deidre chase-estes says:

the recipe doesn't call for any oil. just the cake mix, pudding mix, sour cream, eggs, water, and white chocolate chips.

  20. LaKesha gary says:

Have not made it yetBut wouldn't there be oil in the box cake recipe? And do we just use the box cake mix but not follow the box cake instructions

  21. Cyd says:

There is no oil in this cake. Do not follow the cake mix directions on the box. Just follow the directions for this recipe. It will tell you exactly what to mix together. I hope this helps with any confusion.

  22. Kerri says:

I have made this cake the last three Christmas’s and everyone loves it. I just substituted semi sweet chocolate chips and eliminated the frosting. Just a dusting of confectionary sugar. Thank you.

  23. Erin says:

Can I freeze this cake? if so, can I freeze it iced?My daughter wants it for her bday cake and it will be traveling 7 hours in the car.I figured i would make it, freeze it, and it would be ready to eat when i got there

  24. Cyd says:

This Red Velvet Bundt Cake Recipe should freeze just fine, with the frosting on.

  25. Mayetta Holland says:

Can you make cupcakes with this recipe?

  26. Momma Cyd says:

Yes, these work great as cupcakes too!
